Legends and realities about the nectar of the Gods…
In ancient Rome, wine was one of the most sacred drinks, just think of the numerous poets and philosophers who described wine almost as an elixir capable of driving away worries and sadness.
The history and birth of wine is intertwined and confusing between legends, civilization and religion. The Old Testament sees Noah as the inventor of the drink, the one who planted the first vine.
According to the ancient Greeks, the credit goes to the God Dionysius who, playing with some grapes on Mount Nisa, discovered the wine which he then shared and spread during his travels in numerous towns. What is certain is that wine and its stories date back a long time, in January 2011 the first known winery in the world dating back to around 6,100 years ago was discovered in Armenia with amphorae and production dates. Traces of life dating back more than 9000 years have been found in Georgia .
The history of wine is therefore as old as that of man, perhaps this is why it manages to fascinate so much.
